I think I must have been about 4 at the time and even at that young age I loved shoes (I wanted to wear my new red wellies to bed!) and I remember my mum buying me a lovely pair of shoes so of course I wanted to wear them the next time we went out.
So my mum put them on and off we went now my mum didn't and still doesn't drive so we walked everywhere and at this time we were living in Kidderminster which was very hilly and in fact the estate we lived on was on quite a steep slope. We pottered around the shops and after a while I started to complain that my shoes were hurting and my mum kept telling me to be quiet and that they were fine so we carried on. As you can imagine I kept on moaning and moaning and my mum got more and more annoyed (as a mum myself I know the feeling!) and told me yet again to be quiet. Eventually we got home after a very long walk and my mum took my shoes off to discover that she had left the tissue paper in the toes!!!! Needless to say my poor mum felt awful and was very sorry! Even though I am 38 we still laugh about that story to this day!!

Mum and me circa 1976 |
I should just add that when hubby saw this photo his reaction was 'well you weren't exactly a nice looking baby with that evil stare!!!!' How rude!!
I would also like to point out that I have a wonderful mum who I love dearly and that my feet are in no way deformed from this one incident!!
