Body Positivity

Today I wanted to talk about body positivity but in regards to men.

Now I consider myself very lucky to be a part of a fantastic community where body positivity and body acceptance are widely promoted and we are all encouraged to love our bodies regardless of size, but is this the same for men?

I asked my husband for his thoughts on this matter and he felt that as a man there is less acceptance and still a lot of judgement. I should explain that my husband has his hang ups the main one being his height or as he sees it lack off. He is the same height as me (5'4") and in our society whether we like it not we expect men to be tall or taller than us women. He told me that throughout all of his adult life he has been treated differently because of his height, experiencing problems ranging from being ignored at bars when trying to buy a drink to people not taking his opinions or listening to him properly and treating him like a child. There is also the idea that shorter men are angry (often referred to as small man syndrome) now I find that offensive, as to me that is the same as saying all fat people are jolly! My husband is the most placid person you could ever hope to meet I have only seen him lose his temper a handful of times in the 11 years I have know him!  He also struggles with clothes as many t-shirts and shirts are too long and jackets that are broad enough to fit him are too long the nightmare of finding a suit for our wedding last year still haunts me!

His height doesn't bother me in the slightest if it had we wouldn't be married I don't see it when I look at him I just see my husband. He does worry about his weight more than I think about mine these days as he feels that whilst us ladies have a wonderful plus size community as a man there is no body acceptance or positivity for all shapes and sizes. He works out with weights and walks but honestly I prefer him with a few extra pounds on him and I don't want him to punish himself or feel bad about his body in the same way I don't want to feel bad about mine. He feels pressure to remain at a certain weight and look a certain way just as much as us ladies do, but how many other men out there feel this way but never say?

Open any magazine and not only are we bombarded with images of how the media think women should look there is also the male models with their six pack toned stomachs. Celebrity magazines are now as quick to point out when male stars have gained and lost weight as they are about female celebrities yet do we make a point of saying this is wrong?

As women are we guilty of double standards is it OK for us to be plus size and celebrate our bodies whilst still only wanting men of a certain height or build or are attitudes changing with sites such as Chubstr which is aimed at men allowing them to celebrate their bodies no matter what shape or size they are?

Let me know your thoughts xx

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 27

Hello and welcome to day 27 of the 30 day blog challenge and today is a letter to my lovely readers.

Dear Readers,
First I want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who takes the time to pop by and read my blog. When I first started I really didn't think anyone would be interested in what I had to say or the clothes I wore but gradually the views have increased and I still get excited when a comment is left!
The blog started as a way for me to become more confident and accepting of my figure and whilst it is still that it has also allowed me an outlet to let off steam discuss more personal issues and find support from an amazing community.
Thank you again for reading as without you I would just be a mad woman rambling on to myself and I hope that you continue to enjoy what I post and I look forward to actually meeting some of you in real life at Plus North in September!

Payday Primark Mini Haul

I got paid on Friday so decided to treat myself to some goodies from Primark!

Statement necklace reduced to £2.00

Statement necklace £4.00

Set of Nail Polish £2.00

Earrings £2.50

Set of three bracelets £2.50

I love Primark's jewellery as it is cheap and cheerful and means I can give the same outfit different looks by adding a statement necklace.

The nail varnish is good I expected it chip really quickly as it is cheap but I found it is better than some of the more expensive brands.

Have you had any good finds in Primark lately?

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 25

Hello and welcome to day 25 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge and today the theme is something that someone said about me that I have never forgot.

Many years ago I visited a Tarot reader and the only thing that really struck me was when she said I was lucky, and what is stranger still is that my friends mum read my palm last year and said the same thing in fact she suggested I should always do the lottery!!!!

Make of this what you will but things have happened over the years where I have often that was lucky and I do have quite good success with lottery scratch cards! So who knows maybe I am a lucky person, I like to think so anyway as there could be worse ways to live your life!!

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 24

Hello and welcome to Day 24 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge and the topic today is my three worst traits.

1. Not removing my make up properly at night.
For the sake of my skin I know I need to sort this out and also for the sake of my poor pillows which end up with mascara on them!!!

2.Losing things
I seem to have a natural ability to lose things much to my husbands annoyance!

3. Being untidy
I am an untidy person I have clothes all over the place, paperwork and just general clutter so its no wonder that I lose things!!

Don't forget to check out the other ladies to see what their three worst traits are!

Friday OOTD Oversized!!

Hello I realise that with all the 30 day blog posts I haven't done an outfit post for awhile so I thought I would do a quick OOTD of what I wore to work today.

I don't wear oversized tops as much as I used to as I have been trying to wear more fitted clothing but with the heat I decided to try an oversized top with leggings combo today to wear to work as my office gets hot and very humid (we all reckon its because us ladies in the office are such hot stuff!).

The top was a total bargain find in Zara its linen and was reduced from £22.00 to £5.00, Zara isn't somwhere I normally bother looking but it just goes to show you should never write anywhere off as there are sometimes gems to be found!

This top is actually more grey than it appears here and is slightly more see through than I thought it was oops never mind!

Top Zara
Leggings Peacocks
Sandals Primark (last year)
Necklace Peacocks (last year)

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend xx

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 23

Hello and welcome to day 23 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge and today I am talking about the what I have learned that school won't teach you.

1. We are all amazing and unique
As a teenager I wanted to be like everyone else, with the latest clothes etc but now I am older whilst I like to follow certain trends I am more aware of my own style and that I am my own person.

2. Happiness doesn't mean being rich
Too often we equate happiness with having lots of money and a big house etc, but there is more to life than this. My husband and son make me happy, my friends make me, and blogging make me happy, money just makes you happy for fleeting moments as it be lost as fast as it can be made.

3. Don't take anything or anyone for granted.
Even when you life is fabulous don't forget to stop and appreciate it as none of us know what lies round the corner, tell you family you love them and make time for the important people in your life.

4. Education is good but life experience is just as important.
I got more than just a degree from Uni I also got the chance to stand on my own two feet live independently and get my first job, but in the years since I graduated I have learned so much more as you never know what situations you may face as you grow older and often these are things that shape who you become.

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 22

Hello and welcome to day 22 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge and today I am having a rant on my soapbox!

My chosen topic to rant about is driving!

Now I drive most days, as I take my son to school and commute to work and some of the driving I see beggars belief but I have a number of pet peeves so here we go!

1. Tailgating
Please don't drive up my arse you are not going to make me drive any faster especially if the car or cars in front of me are not going any faster I can't go anywhere and all that is likely to happen is that if I brake suddenly you will end up going up the back of me!

2. Bad Manners
We all know the saying 'Manners cost nothing' so really its not hard to say a quick thank you when someone lets you through, in or is just generally trying to be a considerate driver.

3. Not indicating
Sorry I left my crystal ball at home this morning so please use your bloody indicators as otherwise I have no idea where you want to go. On the same note once you have turned please turn them off and don't confuse other road users whilst you merrily drive along indicating for no apparent reason!

4. Excessive Speed.
I have live near a dual carriageway which I have to use everyday and quite honestly I think some people forget they are in a little car and think they are at the wheel of a F1 car, the road has now become so bad that we recently had three accidents in three days- not good!

5. Crap Parking
Now I admit when I first passed my test I was terrible at parking so would find the most remote spot possible to park my car away from everyone else! What I can't stand are people who park in the most inconsiderate manner, such as too close so that you have to squeeze into your car, or those who think my car is so huge I know I'll park across two spaces because I can't be arsed to park it properly!.

Do you have pet peeves or things that really wind you up?

Don't forget to check out the other ladies to see what they are ranting about!

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 21

Hello and welcome to Day 21 of the 30 Day Blog Challenge and today I am revisiting some of my most favourite blog posts from the archives.

Now bearing in mind I only started the blog in March so I don't have a huge archive of posts but there are a few that stand out.

1. Potty about pockets
I love the dress from this blog post and it is the first time in ages that I had bought something from H&M and I loved the fact that the dress had pockets.

2.My first ever Vlog
So I took the plunge and did a quick you tube video to introduce myself and explain a bit about why I started to blog and it also gave everyone the chance to actually hear what I sound like in real life!

3. Top of The Crops
I think this was really one of the first blog posts after 'Flash the Flesh' where I really started to push myself out of my comfort zone as a couple of months ago I would never have worn a crop top!

4. June its a funny month
This was the first really personal blog post I ever wrote as up until this point I had only ever blogged about my outfits so this was quite a big step but a much needed one and this is in fact one of my most read blog posts.

5. Simply Be Maxi Dress Review
Not only do I love the dress in this post but it also led to me being featured in Simply Be's June Round up and also on their Modeled by You Pinterest board!!

6. Flash the Flesh- The Swimwear Edition
Now I had to include this one and if I am honest this is my number one favourite post as it took me so far out of my comfort zone but the response was amazing and since then I have worn my bikini in the paddling pool in our back garden in full view of the neighbours- skin to the wind as I say!! In fact all of the Flash the Flesh posts have been enormous fun to do and have made me a lot more comfortable with my body.

Don't forget to check out the other fabulous ladies as they delve into their archives and find some fabulous posts to share.
