Le Petit Ballon Wine Club*

I am quite partial to the odd glass of wine or two, but I will admit that I actually know very little about wine. I am not a wine snob and I tend to drink whatever is on offer and once I find something I like I stick with it, so when Le Petit Ballon Wine Club got in touch with me and asked if I would like to try their festive wine subscription box I thought well why not!

The idea behind the company is that Master Sommelier Jean-Michel Deluc has carefully selected all the wines on the site so all you have to do is subscribe and wait for your wine to arrive!

I was sent two rather nice bottles of wine, one white and one red (which is great as I love white wine and my husband is rather partial to red!).

The red was Bindi Sergardi La Boncia 2016 Chianti, and the white was Chateau des Bois Macon Milly-Lamartine 2015, which are both wines I have never tried before. Also included in the box is tasting notes for both bottles and this is where the box really shines for me. As someone who is clueless about wine these cheat sheets are a brilliant idea.

On these sheets is information about the estate the wine comes from, suggestions for food to pair with the wine and tasting notes. There is even a guide as to how long the wine can be kept for (2022 in the case of these two bottles but with Christmas on the horizon I doubt they will last that long!!).

What appeals to me is the easy to understand, jargon free way these notes are presented making it ideal for those like me who don't have a great knowledge of wine.

Also included in the box is a little magazine called The Gazette which features recipes, tips and even wine trivia!

Should you wish to try the service it works in the same way as most subscription boxes in that you can choose to skip a month or cancel at any time. For the box I received the monthly cost is £24.90 and there is an option for a more expensive box at £39.90 per month aimed at those who are more knowledgeable.  In order to find the wines that you will enjoy there is a wine profile for you to fill out which then helps to suggest wines that would be best suited to you.

Should you wish to buy more bottles of the wine you have been sent then these can be purchased via the website and subscribers get a special lower price for each bottle.

With Christmas fast approaching it also worth bearing in mind that you can gift subscriptions to the wine lovers in your life!

Overall I like the idea of this box as it has introduced me to wine I wouldn't have considered before and for will appeal to those who are just discovering wine and also to those who have more knowledge.

Bottoms Up and Chin Chin from me!

Days Out- Croft Castle

It's time for another Days Out post and this time it is the turn of Croft Castle.

This is the furthest property we have visited as it is situated in Yarpole which is Herefordshire and quite a drive from where we live.

We recently made our second trip to a National Trust property and this time we decided to try Coughton Court (pronounced Coat-un) as we drive past it a lot but had never visited.

Days Out- Packwood House Lapworth

As it was Mr S's birthday recently I treated us all to a family membership with The National Trust (I pay for it monthly to make it affordable). Most weekends we had reached the point where we were stuck for ideas on where to go as there are only so many times you can visit the same coffee shops!!

NattyNikki Turns 4!

So earlier this week my little corner of the internet turned four! This may sound cliche but the last four years have flown by and so much has changed in that time. When I first started Oliver was a lot younger, I was still in my thirties and working part time. Fast forward to now and I am 42 this year, working full time, Mr S is 47 this year and Oliver is 10 next month!!

What I wanted to do today was celebrate something that blogging has brought me, and that has been the chance to meet and become friends with some awesome women.

Before I started blogging I had no idea that there was a whole world of fabulous plus size women out there wearing outfits that I had never considered I could wear and who weren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

Without much further ado here are some of those fabulous women.

My Birth Story

Hello this is something I have wanted to share for awhile, even though it has been nearly ten years since I had Oliver I have never forgotten how I felt.

I thought it would be nice to share how it feels to be the parent of a premature baby and how we as a family coped.

I hope you enjoy my ramblings and there is a little slideshow at the end showing how Oliver has grown up.

Birmingham MCM Comic Con 2016

Last weekend we were lucky enough to be able to attend MCM Comic Con over at the NEC in birmingham and I was beyond excited! I have never had the chance to go before but I had an idea of what to expect after watching lots of YouTube videos of other Comic Cons.

It was an early start as we made our way to Hampton in Arden Train Station to grab a train to the NEC (much cheaper and easier than driving and paying to park on site) and once you arrive at the train station it all connects to the NEC.

Do I Stay or Do I Go?

This blog post has been floating about in my head for awhile now and I decided it was time to get it out of my head onto the screen.

If you are a regular reader of my blog you will have noticed a decline in blog posts this year and even Outfit August which I normally love couldn't seem to motivate me to do outfit posts.

Somewhere along the line I seem to have lost my love of blogging and my mojo- well that wandered off awhile ago never to be seen again! When I first started blogging three and a half years ago I was so excited everytime  I blogged a new outfit post and it gave me a much needed confidence boost.

Plus 40 Fabulous July Edition

Hello and welcome to the July edition of Plus 40 Fabulous and the theme for this month is holidays!

I have wonderful childhood memories of the family holidays we used to go on which most years were spent at Holimarine in Hopton on Sea Norfolk. As a small child it felt like a magical adventure and the excitement at seeing the entrance gates to the park has stayed with me!

Our days would be spent swimming in the outdoor pool, trips to the beach, pony rides and sessions of crazy golf!! In the evenings we would head off to the club house for the entertainment and then it was a walk back to the chalet with some chips- this was a real treat!!

Plus 40 Fabulous March Edition

Hello and welcome to this months edition of Plus 40 fabulous where the theme has been chosen by the lovely Cathy who thought it would be good to talk about our greatest achievement.

I have thought long and hard about this as I think I have achieved quite a few things in my almost 41 years on this planet but there is one thing that stands out.

For me my biggest achievement was going to University and I still have very fond memories of my student days.
To put this in some perspective I was never seen as very academic throughout primary and early secondary school, and was even written off in my second year of senior school by my French teacher who thought I would never amount to anything!  I had an older brother who excelled in the subjects I struggled with and my teachers always compared us- well until my mum told one off for doing this at parents evening- go mum!!

Fifteen year old me!

It wasn't until my third year at senior school that I realised I loved English literature and this was the only subject I was in the second set for, and at the same time I had to choose my options and I decided to try social science. I never looked back suddenly I had two subjects that totally made sense to me and that I enjoyed so when it came to my A Levels I knew Sociology and English had to be my main choices along with Psychology.

My mum always says to me that her memories of me during my A Levels was that I always had my head buried in a book and when it came time for my exams I revised non-stop as by this stage I had my heart set on going to University in Chester. I managed to score good enough marks for an unconditional offer at Chester to study English and History and I was over the moon but terrified of moving away from home.

At eighteen I was still incredibly shy and when I first left to go I felt so homesick but my mum insisted I stay for three weeks to really settle in before coming home for the weekend which looking back now she was right to do. Thankfully I was given a room-mate who took me under her wing and I soon settled in.

I had the three most amazing years and it taught me to be independent from my parents, and boosted my confidence and made me a lot less shy, For me University wasn't just about the learning it was the whole experience of living away from home, meeting new people and standing on my own two feet.

21 year old me in 1996!

Now that I am older I sometimes see achievements as the things we take for granted, like those days when you don't want to but you still get out of bed, shower and get on with your life. I realise now that we should never take for granted those days when we still face life even in our darkest hours.

16 in 16

I am not one for New Years Resolutions as I struggle to stick to them, so when the lovely Sophie from Busy Little Fee suggested instead the idea of 16 in 16 I thought I would think about what I might want to do this year.

Sophie says "The concept of 16 in '16 is simple; an opportunity to sit down, reflect on the past year and think about what things we did well, what things we'd like to do better in the future and, more importantly, what things we'd like to achieve in the coming twelve months".

1. Include lifestyle content on the blog
When I started this blog nearly three years ago the main focus was plus size fashion and it has largely remained that way. Besides my love of fashion I am considering adding some lifestyle posts to the blog such as days out with my family as I don't have the funds to constantly add new outfits to my wardrobe!!

2. More YouTube
Last year saw me start to do more with my YouTube channel including Vlogtober and over the year my subscribers have climbed to 167 which in the grand scheme of things is still tiny but for me it was a great achievement. I want to do more vlogging this year and I know Oliver is keen to get involved as he loves being on camera.

3. Be more thrifty
I mentioned last year that currently we are one income household so I need to really learn to be thrifty. I have started to use Top Cashback for purchases (although I forget sometimes) and I always scour Ebay for bargains. Before I make a bug purchase I look around for discount codes or offers for free delivery as it all helps. I also have to curb my spending, my wardrobe is packed and lets be honest I can only wear one outfit at a time! I want to dig deep and see what hidden gems I have and not worry about repeating an outfit on the blog from time to time!

4. Grow my following
Now this is something that I am always trying to work on and I have seen my follower count increase over the last three years and I have goals I want to reach.
Twitter 4000
Instagram 2000
Facebook 500
I find the hardest ones to grow or Facebook and Instagram so we will see!

5. Bake more cakes
I do love to bake and my parents very kindly bought me an electric mixer last year which is fab, I do have a signature cake- Cherry, Almond and Marzipan which I haven't made for ages. I find it relaxing and I take great joy in seeing people enjoying what I have made.

6. Drink more water
I am terrible for not drinking enough during the day and it leads me to become dehydrated and headachey. We have a water machine at work so there is no excuse so I intend to keep a glass on my desk and fill it at regular intervals. I'm sure it would help my skin as well as it looks tired and I am convinced this is from lack of water.

7. Look after my skin
Now I am in my forties I really need to look after my skin (to be honest you should look after your skin no matter what your age!). I have become quite the fan of micellar water and I need to stop committing the beauty crime of not taking my make up off at night!! I have also started gently ex foliating my skin and using primer!

8. De-Clutter
I am terrible for holding onto things I no longer need, albeit clothes, make up or just random stuff. I don't live in a very big house so space is at a premium. I also need to learn to be more tidy and put things away!

9. Social Media
I love social media but I often don't use it as much as I should for blogging purposes. I want to share more on Instagram other than just my usual selfies and I feel I need to be more chatty on Twitter. I think  my biggest problem is finding time so I need to see how I go with this.

10. Blog More
Last year I didn't blog as much as I wanted to due to my job becoming full time and very busy. What I need to do is manage my time at home so I can take outfit photos, schedule in advance and use my time effectively. I do have the blogger app on my phone and if creativity sometimes strikes whilst I am on the bus home from work I need to make the most of it! I am proud of how far this little blog has come and it makes me happy to know in March I shall celebrate my third blogging anniversary as when I started I had doubts as to how long it would last!

11. Remember to buy a lottery ticket
Simple really I always forget and as my husband likes to remind me 'you have to be in it to win it'!

12. Get better with make up
Somehow I have reached the age of 40 and I still cannot do winged eyeliner, I have watched all the tutorials who make it look so easy yet when I try nada!! I have more make up now than I have ever owned but I need to become more proficient in using it!!!

13. Walk More
I need to get of my bum and walk more I used to walk 20 minutes each way to and from work but before Christmas I discovered a bus that would mean I no longer had to do this! I am sat down at my desk most days at work so my plan is to get up every so often and stretch my legs even if I just go to the toilet and back!! I also need to get back to walking round the country parks where I live as I know I always feel refreshed after a walk- it blows the cobwebs away!

14. Attend more meet ups
Last year I managed to get three events (two of which were in Brum!!) now this is really down to finances allowing me to travel. I know I want to go to the Curve Fashion Festival in September but beyond that it will be down to money.

15. Pinterest
I have had a Pinterest account for years (I think I had it before I started blogging) but I still don't really get it. I see a lot of bloggers saying it generates traffic to their blog but I don't get how! This year I want to get to grips with it!

16. Interact more
I read lots of blogs but I am terribly guilty of reading and running as sometimes there are demands on my time. This year I want to try and comment more because as bloggers we all love interaction and comments. I still love it when someone leaves me a comment as you know the post has been well received.

So there you have it my 16 in 16 will I achieve them all well you'll have to wait and see!!!
